Ashlin's brother, Patrick dies from starvation, and disease. Leaving her alone with a dead farm, swine and chickens. -
Boat Ticket.
Ashlin recieves a letter from her uncle in America. Enclosed is money for a ticket to America. She sells the farm and animals. -
Voyage
aborda ship to America in stterage. All Ashlin brings in a small knapsack of her only other dress and the money she got from selling the farm and animals. -
Arrives at Ellis Island
Ashlin arrives to Ellie Island, 3 months later. Virus spread around steerage and she gets trapped at Ellis island for 1 week for having a runny nose and a tickle in her throat. -
United with Uncle
Finally gets to Manhatten and finds her uncle. He brings her to his family's home in an Irish neighborhood. -
attempts to find job
Ashlin tries to find work , but keeps kind "no Irish need apply" signs and expieriences racism. No one wants to hire her. She is at another disadvantage by being a women. -
gets job
Ashlin finds a job in a factory . -
Learns About West
Finds out about the free land in the West. Hopes to make her own money and own some land. -
leaves the city
Saves enough money to leave Manhatten and move West. She buys a horse and necesarry needs to go west. -
meets a boy
Ashlin meets an american boy about herr age named David. he tom is travleing west for the same reasons. They choose to ride the trail together. -
frostbite
Ashlin gets frostbite traveling through winter, but she is able to warm them back to life with David's help -
finally reaches West
Ashlin and David finally make it to the West. There is a race for free land. -
No land
Ashlin tries to apply for land, but as a woman and an immigrant, she cannot own land in America. -
Joins David
Since Ashlin cannot compete for her own land, she joins David in the race and they pretend to be getting land together. -
David gets shot
While racing, David gets shot in the leg. Ashlin dosn't want to leave him, becasue he has done so much for her. So she claims the nearest piece of land with his flag. -
David asks her to marry him
After Ashlin saves his life, David decides to ask Asahlin for her hand in marriage. Also it would be vulgar for them to start a life together with being married -
Crops fail
Ashlin and Davids crops won't grow, so some native americans showed them a technique for plowing and making crops grow. This was a peace making experience. -
Happily Ever After
Ashlin and David live a happily ever after. They made profit off f their crops and have a successful farm.
