  • Vietnam War!

In 1955 the Vietnam War started and was known for the death staggering toll. It killed over 2 million Vietnamese civilians and had huge impacts on their economy. This war left a huge amount of damage to their country and their economy plummeted and poverty increased.
  • Travelling Overseas

In 1978 Tiffanie's grandfather made one last attempt to escape Vietnam with his wife. With all their savings and time being spent trying to reach freedom. They had realized that this was going to be the hardest part and that they were almost there.
  • The reasoning of leaving?

Tiffanie's grandfather was the force behind the family's big move across the world. He wanted his family and soon to be family (his daughter's boyfriend: Tiffanie's dad) to be safe and have a good and stable home to raise their families. This was because he experienced the impact of the war on him and being imprisoned.
  • Travelling Overseas #2

Sooner then later, they boarded a boat with several hundreds of people aboard, who were all wishing the same thing,to be free. Although while on the ninth day of sailing across the sea a storm occurred. Nobody knew what was going to happen in that moment. Luckily they survived and stopped in Hong Kong!
  • The move from Hong Kong to Canada

From Hong Kong (where they lived in a refugee camp for 4 months) to finally making it to their final destination Ottawa, Canada. After all the ups and downs they had finally made it, a place where everybody could finally be safe.

  • Grandfathers Passing

In 2021 late in the spring Tiffanie Tri's grandfather had sadly passed away. He passed away in the late spring and she always regretted not asking him more about his past. Even though her family told her the stories it didn't feel right not getting her grandfathers perspective. However, he never wanted to talk about his past. This was because of all the trauma he had endured especially with his wife (Tiffanie grandmother) passing away after only a couple years of living in Canada.
