    Recidency requirement reduced to five years

    Precident William McKinley dies after being shot by a polish anarchist. After this congress prohibits imigrants thought to be anarchist and political extremist from entering the U.S.

  • The naturalization Act of 1906

    Knowledge of the English language becomes a requirement for immigrants.

  • Dilingham commision

    Established to investigate the effects of immigration on the U.S.

  • literacy requirement

    Immigrants are required to be able to read at least 40 words in some language.

  • Alien registration act

    Requires registration and fingerprinting of all immigrants in the U.S. over 14 years old.
