    Coming to to America
My name is Makumba Mamawa and I am 17 years old. I am coming to America to evade the English police. I am originally from Africa but I have moved to England so I could live in a different environment. I want to have a new life and not be put in jail. I have decided to lie on my legal inspection to pass and be able to go into America to start my new life where everyone is new to eachother.

  • Discrimination in America

    Discrimination in America
Since coming to America I have not consistently had a job and have been discriminated against because of my skin color. The jobs that I have been able to get were the jobs that no one else wanted to take. Even these jobs that I could get I only had for a few weeks because my bosses were ridiculed for hiring me and so they fired me as to stop future ridiculing.

    Discrimination Continued
I now haven't had a job for a year straight and before that have been living on the streets on and off. I am now living on the street consistently. The discrimination has gotten worse and I have been mistreated just becuase of my skin color. I have run out of jobs to apply for because I have been fired from almost every one of them that I am qualified for. I'm starting to think that maybe going to jail in England may have been better than what I am dealing with here in America.
  • New Job

    New Job
I have finally found a job that I won't be fired from for being a different race than other people. My new job building railroads is so labor intensive that not many people will apply for it. Since I couldn't find any other jobs I chose this one and I found out that I wasn't the only one who was being discriminated against. Most of the other people who work with me were discriminated against too.

    East Coast
After having my job working on the railroad I have made some money and have enough now to back to Boston. I want to move back to Boston because I left some of my friends there when I took my job at the railroad and would like to revisit them. I also think that I could now be more qualified for other jobs since I have more money and am not living on the streets.

After moving back to Boston I have got a job at a chicken processing plant. The processing plant hired me because he was discriminated when he first came to America and has made it a priority to hire immigrants. The chicken processing plant pays a lot more than my job at the railroad and is much easier on my body. Since I am getting older I want to work for a little while longer and then retire.

    West Coast
After saving up my money I now have enough to move to the West and start my own business selling horses. This is the reason that I came to America because it is my dream to be a horse breeder and now I have the opportunity to do it. I never thought that I would be able to start my business at this young age, I am 46 years old and have been in the America for 29 years.
