I left America and came to England because I didnt want to be forced into and arranged marriage by my mother and father. I came to America to have my own land and live with my sister and her husband. -
Started to Work in a Factory
I started to work in a factory, sewing and making clothes so that I could make money for my dream of farming. It was really difficult becasue i have never had to do anything on my own since i had servents to sew my clothes for me. -
Sister Dies of Illness
I lived with my sister and her husband while I lived in America but after the long winter my sister got very ill. Before she could get better she died and he husband left to go back to England. I was alone, -
Homestead Act
I left where i was staying with my sister to take advantage of the Homestead Act and get my own farm. After working hard i got my own land and started to plant crops to make my farm. -
Discrimination as a Girl
I realized I wasn’t getting much money in the first couple of weeks of selling my crops. I soon realized the issue was because I am woman owning my farm on my own without the help of a man. -
Changing who i am
After a few more weeks of thinking about this i decided that the onyl way to really sell my crops and make money was to change who I was. I cut off my long hair and changed my name to pretend i was a man. After i did this i sold many more crops and became the farmer i always wanted to be.
