Industrial revelution
a time period where industrialism and employment was at an all time high. factories also sprung up at a rapid rate. In these factories, women and children found jobs, however the treachment here was very poor. -
Irish Immigration
After the Great Famine from 1945-1949, millions of Irish people immigrated to the United States. Potatoes were their most common food, and after all of the potatoes went bad, people started starving. Their only solution was to immigrate to other countries, like America. 1.5 to 2 million Irish immigrants settled in major cities, such as Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. They eventually made up around a quarter of the population in those major cities. -
Gold
Gold was discovered in California and many immigrants came to mine for gold. Many of these immigrants wanted to earn money and then return to their homelands. -
Chinese and Japanese Immigrants
Chinese and Japanese people started immigrating to the United States in 1851 during the California gold rush. They also helped build railroads, worked in the mines, and farmed. -
Ellis Island Opens
12 million immigrants pass through just Ellis island alone during 1892 to 1950. The immigrants were generally from southern and eastern Europe. All immigrants had to go through a legal and medical exam.Immigrants stayed on the island for 3 to 5 hours.
