    In the 1800's people in many parts of the world decided to leave their homes and immigrate to the United States. Do to crop failure, land and job shortages, rising taxes, and famine, many came to the U. S. because it was known for well paying and good land.
  • Why?

    Why?
    Chinese people had came to Canada for when workers were needed for the Canadian Pacific Railway to get more money for them and their families.
  • Poorly treated

    Chinese people were treated very poorly in Canada. The Canadians were disrespectful and unfriendly to the Chinese.
  • Who had the most?

    Winnipeg had the most foreign born residents.
  • 1880-1914

    from 1880 to 1914 Immigrants came primarily from Great Britain, Continental Europe and East Asia.

Most of the 20th century (specifically, from the late 1920s to the early 1970s) New York had been an American-born city, especially after the "golden door" had been shut in 1924 by federal immigration quotas that reduced the flood of newcomers to a trickle. By the 1950s, more than eighty percent of New Yorkers were native-born.

    in 1492, Colombus had discovered America. Also, the vikings were the first Europeans who came to America before 1492 but did not stay. They biult a colony which then was abondoned, and may have only been a colony for about a year.

    in 1949, Chinese people were allowed to become Canada citizens.

    Stephen Harper apologized for the Canadian gorvernments racist treatment of Chinese people.
  • China Town

    Chinese people had made a part of the city their place to go to due to the fact that white people were rude to them and did not give them many rights. So the Chinese decided to create part of the city theres so they could be left alone, but then the whites came and destroyed what they had. They broke windows and set buldings on fire. ( Not sure the exact date )
  • New immigrants

    Even though missing their home countries, new immigrants were happy tp stay in Canda because they had better paying jobs to support theire families, and Canda was more accepting than most countries.
  • Encouragment

    Canada had encouraged immigration from European immigration by free land to farm. ( Not sure the exact date )
  • Foreign Quartres

    Foreign Quarters is just another word for immigrants. Immigrants were situated in the Northend of Winnipeg. ( Not sure on exact date )
