Some call this day Australia Day but many indigionous people call it Invastion Day

Gold Rushes
There were 3 main nationalities who migrated to Australia during the gold rush. The British/Irish were the first and most prevelent. The Germans were next and the final group was the Chinese and they were discriminated against by the other miners. -
Federation Day
Australia was federated and a dictation test was introduced -
Great Depression
No migrants accepted during the great depression. -
Jewish refugees
Influx of Jewish refugees after the Holocaust, these refugees were given a Certificate of Exemption. -
Attacks on Sydney and Newcastle
Japanese submerines snuck into Sydney Harbour. -
Populate or Perish
Arthur Calwell coined the phrase 'populate or perish' near the end of WWII and suggested australia allow displaced Europeans, Polish Europeans and Russians to immigrate to Australia. There was also an assisted imigration scemed and the people who came over as a result of this scheme were comonly knows as 10 pound poms. -
Baby Boomer Generation Born
During the 1950's there were over 50 million refugees in Europe. -
Korean and Vietnamese refugees.
During the 1960's there was an influx of Korean and Vietnamese refugees. -
Shift in Policy
Viatnamese and Koreans were allowed resedence in Australia. -
