The first iMac was invented. Ken Segall, an employee in L.A. came up with the idea of the iMac and pitched it to Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs wanted to call it “MacMan”, but Segall said that the “i” stands for the Internet, and individuality. -

Updated iMacs were released
On May 3, 2011, Apple updated their iMac line with the introduction of Intel Thunderbolt technology and Intel Core i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge processors as well as a 1 mp high definition FaceTime camera, features which were first introduced in the MacBook Pro line in February 2011. -
Thinner iMacs were announced
On October 23, 2012, Apple announced the release of a thinner iMac for November/December. It also has the new Apple fusion drive, the Intel Core i5 and i7 bridge. -
Retina 5K display iMac was announced
On October 16, 2014, a new version of the iMac was announced, whose main feature is a "Retina 5K" display at a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels. It also includes a new processor, graphics chip, and I/O, along with several new storage options. This computer was designed for professional photographers and video editors
