  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    Founded by the Virginia Company of London. Barely enough food to get by, only 20% of people survive disease and hunger. Profits from tobacco saved the colony.
  • Slavery: The origin

    All colonies made use of slaves, but some colonies relied on slavery more than others.
    The growth of plantation-based agriculture economy in the hot, humid middle and southern colonies required a large cheap source of labor.
    First, Africans brought to Jamestown in 1610 to work on tobacco plantations.

    Religious revival movement across the colonies.
    Led to the rapid growth of evangelical religions such as the Methodists and Baptist.

    Washington surrenders, retreats, war begins. Britain had stronger navy, more colonists, and stronger economy to wage war.

    France gives up because Britain had a better equipment. Britain had more colonists and stronger navy. France couldn't keep fighting. After 6 years France took the decision. Buttttttt Britain was practically broke by the end of the war. Asked colonies to pay them back through higher taxes.

    The start of the revolution: The Boston Massacre
    Citizens began taunting British soldiers and throwing Snowballs. British soldiers opened fire, killing 5 civilians. Soldier put on trial and found not guilty. People all over the colonies are furious.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    Tea act of 1773 put a tax on all British tea that was not British. Sons of liberty and other rebels dumped British tea into Boston Harbor as a Protest against the tax. British punished Boston by Bringing troops.
  • F&I WAR

    F&I WAR
    English and French fighting over the same land and resources. France believed it owned all land South of Canada but North of Florida. France believed it owned all of central North America.

    Politicians from every colony except Georgia met to discuss how to respond to the blockade of Boston Harbor and the Precense of British troops.
    First meeting det in Philadelphia from September 5 to October 26, 1774.
    First the most of the colonies came together to have one voice.
  • Turning point and Victory

    Turning point  and Victory
    Americans won the battle of Saratoga which led to the treaty of alliance, (negotiated by Ben Franklin with France ).
    Frane now thought the Americans could win the war, so they joined the war to help fight against the British.
