Battle Of Gettysburg
This battle was known as a blood bath that killed thousands of soldiers. This battle was the turning point in the AMerican Civil War. It was the largest battle of the war with causualties totaling 51,000 soldiers total with 8,000 men killed, 27,000 wounded, and more than 16,000 missing or taken prisoner. On just one day of the battle (July 2nd) more than 15,000 soldiers were killed or wouned in just six hours. The Union ended up winning the battle. Everything was different after Gettysburg. -

Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo
This treaty recognized Texas as apart of the United States, and said there shall be peace between the Union, Texas, and Mexico, but the treaty also ceceded a large chunk of land that was later known as the Mexican Cession. This included all land from Texas to the Pacific which was sold to the Union for $15 million. The treaty also stated that Mexicans who remained in the state would be permitted to become U.S. Citizens and that they could keep their owned property. -
Mexican Cession
The Mexican Cession was known as the tranfer of land from Texas to the Pacific including future states California, Utah, Nevada, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. This large chunk of land was sold to the United States for 15 million dollars. The Treaty of GUadalupe Hidalgo and the Mexican Cession both occured during the same era and connected. The treaty said that Mexico surrendered all land between Texas and the Pacific, so that's how they connect. -
Election of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln ran for president in the election of 1860. He is the man known for his famous "Four Score and Seven Years Ago" quote. "Four Score and Seven Years Ago our fathers brought forth on this new continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." Lincoln said this quote at the ceremonie for the men who died at Gettysburg. This quote proved that Abraham Lincoln was a man of good character and of great responsibility. -
Texas Secedes from Union
Texas declared its Secession from the United States on February 1st, 1861 and joined the confederate states on March 2, 1861. Texas didn't want to follow all of the Unions rules and declared its secession. Texas held a convention that let Texans vote if they wanted to leave or stay with the Union States. The Texans who voted to leave the Union states mainly did it over the objection of their governor Sam Houston. -
13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment said that all Slavery was to be Abolished. All Slavery in the Union was now illegall! The Slaves were truly thankful and loved President Abraham Lincoln for creating the new amendment. Of course there were the mean people who were extremely furious about this new amendment but there was no way President Lincoln was going to change it. The 13th Amendment was just the beginning of the changes going on while Lincolns time serving as President. -
14th Amendment
This Amendment stated that all slaves born or naturalized in the United states were to be given citizenship. The slaves were now once again trully blessed and thankful for another amendment that would forever change their lives. However this amendment was the most complicated because its broad goal was to ensure that the civil rights act passed in 1866 would remain valid ensuring that all people born in the United states were to be given full and equal benefits of ALL laws. -
15th Amendment
This Amendment was alos created during the Reconstruction Era and stated that all MEN of any ethnicity were now allowed to vote. Women of any race were still not allowed to vote. However, Southern States were very resentful of the new laws being created by the northern state. The Klu Klux Klan (KKK) didn't like the 13th amendment at all and begun to terrorize African Americans and scared them away from voting. The 15th Amendment caused a lot of caos with the Americans and African Americans.
