  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    Only English ships were allowed to bring goods into England. The North American colonies could only export its products to England, like sugar and tobacco.
  • French-Indian War

    French-Indian War
    The French Indian War was between Great Britain and France. The war provided England with big territorial gains but also they went into debt. This led to the American Revolution.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The British Parliament forced a tax on all paper documents in the colonies, all paper documents had to have a stamp. This was enforced on American Colonists because Britain was in debt from the French-Indian War.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    American Colonies were required to open their homes to British Soldiers and provide for them.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    A series of measures that taxed goods imported to the American colonies passed by the British Parliament. Taxes was added to things like glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    It began as an argument between American Colonists and a British soldier, the soldier fired a shot and killed a boy which escalated into days of hatred and fighting between the American Colonists and the British.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A protest by the American Colonists towards the British. American Colonists were mad about "taxation without representation" so they disguised themselves and got on a British ship and dumped 342 chests of Tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Four acts against the American Colonies as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. Taking away most of their rights and freedoms.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    A document which was a final attempt by the colonists to avoid going to war with britain. The document contained pledged loyalty from the colonists to assert their rights as british citizens.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    Between Britain and the 13 colonies of America. This kicked off the start to the American Revolutionary War. British troops marched from Boston to Concord and alarms were sounded which started the battle.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    Held after the American Revolutionary War. It took the step of declaring America's independence from Britain.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    Pamphlet written and published by Thomas Paine. It contained his arguments in favor of American Independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    A 5 man committee including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin were tasked with writing a formal statement of the colonies' intentions. The Declaration of Independence was adopted by Congress on July 4th.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    The first written constitution in the US. The articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most power with the state governments.
  • Daniel Shays' Rebellion

    Daniel Shays' Rebellion
    A series of violent attacks on courthouses and other government properties in Massachusetts. Daniel Shay was a farmer and former soldier who started the protests. The protestors were mostly soldiers-turned farmers who didn't like state economic policies causing poverty and property foreclosures.
  • Constitutional Convention

    Constitutional Convention
    The main subject was to figure out how America was going to be governed. The convention had been called to revise the existing AOC but some other people had the idea of creating a new government instead of fixing the existing one.
