FREAK ADDICENT
A snowy winter day, the Hall family decides to take the day off of work and school and go on a trip. Arguing over the music being played on the way there, a "freak accident" occurs and kills all of them immediately. Mia finds herself walking around, still listening to the song playing from before the crash, looking at her dead mother and father. But where is Teddy? She spots a hand in the snow and expects to see him but it isn't Teddy's hand. It's Mia's. -

FIRST SURGERY
Mia doesn't know if she's dead or alive. She knows she's not dead. But it's clear she isn't alive. Her condition is not that great and she find herself in the hospital. The doctors are removing her spleen, inserting tubes, and finding it difficult to save her brain. She finds out that she in a coma. She has a decision to make. -
HER CONDITION
A social worker comes in and after talking to the doctors and nurses in Mia's room, she goes to the waiting room to talk to her family. It has not hit Mia yet that she is in a coma but once her family is told, it begins to sink in. Though the social worker says she has a chance of survival, her decision becomes harder to make because she doesn't know if she even wants to fight without her family. -
ADAM AND KIM
Mia watches out a window as Kim follows Adam into the hospital. In the hallway a nurse stops them, telling them that only immediate family is allowed in the room. Though he puts up a fight and begs the nurses, the answer is no. Adam and Kim relent but soon think of a plan. -
planning
Adam and Kim devise a plan to get in to see Mia. Mia find them in a supply closet a couple of hallways away from the ICU. They are looking for janitors' or nurses' uniforms. After a while they determine that this plan will not work, so Adam comes up with a new plan. -
the bath signal
Adam arranges Brooke Vega, lead singer of fictional famous band Bikini, to come in and distract the hospital staff. When someone shouting her name failed to distract anybody, she began singing. The plan was working. But as Adam and Kim approached Mia's room, two security guards caught them and turned them away. -
second surgery
Mia finds Willow, a family friend and member of the hospital staff, talking to Adam in the security room. She overhears Willow saying that Teddy is gone. This discovery causes Mia to not want to stay at all. She runs back to her room to try to figure out how to leave purgatory and die already but finds her body going in for a second surgery instead. -
Adam sees Mia
Because Willow knows Adam, she allows him to come in and see Mia after her surgery. After she hears him talking to her, she isn't so dead-set on dying. He helps her realize that she has plenty of friends worth staying for who care about her, especially him. -
Mia decides
Adam leaves after a while and Kim comes in to talk. Mia is very tired at this point and thought it was because she was dying. After Kim left, Adam came back and talked some more. After a few minutes, Mia feels a shooting pain and her life flashes. Within seconds she realizes she isn't in a daze anymore. She can not only hear Adam, but feel him. Mia had chosen to stay.
