Ida was born in Western Pennsylvania in 1857. Ida was the daughter of an independent oil producer. Ida's fathers company had gone backrupt due to complications. -
Company going Bankrupt
When the Standard Oil Company had began swallowing up independent oil companies Ida's father's company had gone bankrupt. Ida had grew deeply angered with John D. Rockefeller for the cause of this. -
Education
Ida Tarbell was the only female student in the class of 40. Ida went to Allegheny College. Being the only female at the school she had recalled the males "hostile and indiffernet." -
Career
After Ida graduated from Allegheny she began her career as a writer. in the late 1890s she was writing a very popular series for the McClure's Magazine. Ida was a great writer. -
Some of her Work
In 1900 Ida was assigned to investigate Standard Oil. Tarbell published 19 articles of her findings on the Standard Oil's business practices. Due to her articles in the McClure's Magazine readers hailed Ida as "the Terror of the Trusts." -
Ida's Label
Unlike many other reporters Tarbell was dismayed to find that she had been labeled as a muckraker. Many of her readers continued to expect such expose and seemed uninterested in more positive findings. -
Later Life
In ida's later life she participated in numerous government conferences and committees. Tarbell went to these meetings and conferneces to deal with issues such as defense, industry, and unemployment. -
before her death
5 years before Ida Tarbell's passing she had wrote a autobiography. The book was called "All in the Day's Work." -

Ida Tarbell passed away in 1944. Ida was well known for her writing and also for her findings of the Standard Oil Company's practices and for the articles that she had in the McClure's Magazine. Ida is also well known for her autobiography she had written 5 years before her death.
