Early 1800's
Dalton said that all matter consists of atoms and that atoms of the same element are identical. He also said that the differences in the elements were due to different properties of the atom. Further, he said that chemical reactions are the result of changes at the atomic level. -

JJ Thompson
Thompson discovered the electron. -
Rutherford
Rutherford said that atomes consist of a tiny and dense positively charged core called the nucleus in which all mass is concentrated and that electrons orbit the nucleus. -
Bohr
Bohr builds on Rutherford's work. He determines that electrons travel around the nucleus in increasingly larger orbits the farther they are from the nucleus. -
Schrodinger
Schrodinger concentrated on electron waves and particles. He created an equation that relatest the distance of an electron from the nucleus to potential energy of the electron. -
