    Ian MacDougall HAcking was born on February 18, 1936 in VAncouver , Canada . He earned his undergraduate degree from the UNiversity of British Columbia in 1956 . Then from the University of Cambridge in 1958. Hacking started his teaching career as an instructor at Princeton University in 1960 . After working as a research fellow at Cambridge in the 1960’s he taught as his in UBC.

    Hacking himself still identifies as a Cambridge analytic philosopher which he has been a main proponent of realism about science called the entity realism .Realism is a form that encourages a realistic stance towards answers to the scientific unknowns.
  • His Works

    After the 1990’s Ian Hacking shifted his focus somewhat from the natural sciences to human. He was partly influenced by the work of Michel Foucault. Foucault was influenced as early as 1975 when Hacking had written Why Does Language to Philosophy. Then in 2002 Ian was awarded the first Killam Prize for HUmanities in Canada, the most distinguished award for outstanding career achievements.

    Then in 2004 Hacking ended up in the University of Santa Cruz for the winters in 2008 and 2009. Then 2009 he was named winner of the Holberg International Memorial Prize.
