The Yellow Star
Elli had to wear a yellow star on her chest. The star represents that you're a jew, and only jews had to wear one. "All Jews must wear a yellow star on the left side of the chest" (Jackson 30). -
The Ghetto
When Elli got to the Ghetto, she had to make it her new home. It must've been hard for her because there was so little of everything, but people. "The cart comes to a halt in front of the synagogue yard, a small enclare for twenty famillies enclosed by a tall wire fence. This is the ghetto" (Jackson 41). -
Elli's dad leaves
Elli's father left the ghetto, he had to go to a labor camp. Elli never got to say good-bye to her dad, she will never see him again. " Oh, Daddy! How could you leave me without saying good-bye?" (Jackson 56). -
The Poems
The gaurd was taking everyones belongings, the Jews were not allowed to keep anything. Elli was afraid she wouldn't get her poems back so she hid them. "Quickly I thrust the notebook with my poems inside my blouse" (Jackson 58). -
Auschwitz
After the ghetto, Elli, her mom, brother, and aunt, were taken to a concentration camp. The name of the camp was Auschwitz, one of the worst camps in the Holocaust. "A huge sign catches my eye: AUSCHWITZ" (Jackson 71). -
An Injury
In Auschwitz, Elli's mom got injured because a broken bed fell on her, she was taken to the infirmary, if she stayed there for too long and didnt recover they would have to kill her. But Elli planned an escape for her mom, witch was to smuggle her out. "Mommy must be smuggled out" (Jackson 134). -
Augsburg
After a while in Auschwitz, Elli and her mom were taken to another concentration camp called Augsburg. In this camp Elli and her mom felt safer and better because, they were treated nicley until Goat arrived. "Where are we? the sign says Augsburg" (Jackson 148). -
Bubi
In Waldlager Elli and her mom met Bubi, Elli's Brother. A few days later they were put on trains for transportation, but they did not know where. "Bubi is it you?" (Jackson 176). -
An Attack
After a few days in the train, it finally stopped. The Red Cross were going to feed them, but then an attack occured on them. "Rat-tat-tat-tat Machine gun fire from every direction" (Jackson 192-193). -
Finally Free
After the attack Elli, her brother and mother, had to get back on the trains. A while later, they were freed. "Freedom at last" (Jackson 205).
