In 1942, after creating the first nuclear chain reaction on earth at the Met Lab in Chicago, Enrico Fermi said that the fission process that occurred within an atomic bomb could be used to ignite the same sort of thermonuclear reaction that took place inside the center of the sun. -
Edward Teller
Edward Teller asks for Robert Oppenheimer's support in the building process of a hydrogen bomb for the United States. Oppenheimer refuses to help with construction of the bomb. Teller would later go on to build the hydrogen bomb. -

First Hydrogen Bomb Test
A 10.4 megaton hydrogen bomb code named "Mike" was the first test of a hydrogen bomb. It was detonated in Marshall Islands on an area in the Pacific Ocean called the Enewetak Atoll. -

BRAVO is the first deliverable hydrogen bomb. It was tested at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. This 15 megaton bomb. exploding bigger than expected. One crew member of a local fishing vessel died from the explosion. -

The "Tsar Bomba" is the most powerful nuclear weapon ever to be detonated. The 57 megaton hydrogen bomb created by the Soviet Union was detonated north of Russia. The mushroom cloud was 40 miles high and 59 miles wide. -
