5:00am Storm Surge
Storm surge hammered the MR-GO levee. Later, some levee areas collapsed and Lake Borgne carried into wetlands near St. Bernard Parish. -
6:10am Landfall
Katrina makes landfall at Buras. A 21ft high wall of water crosses the Mississippi River, flooding most of Plaquemines Parish. -
6:30am
Surge grows in Intracoastal Waterways "funnel" and the levees guarding eastern New Orleans are under water. Water slips into cracks in sections of 17th Street Canal levee wall into neighborhoods. -
6:50am

On the east side of the Industrial Canal, sections of two floodwalls fall, causing a wall of water to escape into the Lower 9th Ward. This caused cars and houses to be destroyed. -

Lake Borgne advances to St Bernanrd's Perish second line of defense topping 7ft to 9ft Canal and Airport is topped from the floodwall. -
9:00am Wall Panels
katrinaSurge rises to 10ft in London Ave. canal and its wall panels begin to bend but the flow is still minor. 2 miles west, enbankments at New Orleans pours into City Park. -
Expanding Floods
I-wall panels on East side of the London canal fail and release water into homes. -
New Orleans and Metairie

Katrina moves away
With Katrina moving away quickly, surge levels drop and levee overtopping ceases. Lake Pontehartrain remains over filled and water keeps flowing into city until the lake level equalizes floodwater at noon,but the damage is already done. Flooding causes severe damage througout the city. Homes, cars, buildings, families and so much more are destoyed.
