First Exectutive Director
Vic Basile was elected as the first executive director of the Human Rights Fund. -
Shift in organization
The Human Rights Campaign Fund was changed to a non-profit organization. -
New leader New Purpose
Vic Basile stepped down and the organization decided on Tim McFeeley. With this transistional process the organization decided to change their statemment of purpose to: "For the promotion of the social welfare of the gay and lesbian community by drafting, supporting and influencing legislation and policy at the federal, state and local level." -
Endorsment of Presidents
For the first time the Human Rights Campaign endorsed a presidential candidate Bill Clinton. After Clintons victory in the presidential election HRC leaders had the first sit down meeting between LGBT Leaders and the President. -
National Coming Out Day
HRC developed a new program which was directed towards helping people come out and be proud. This has been widley successful in raising awareness for the LGBT community. -
Elizabeth Birch
Elizabeth Birch was appointed executive director of HRC. She served this position until 2005. -
Change in Name
The Human Rights Campaign Fund decided to drop the word fund from their name and reorganize the non-profit They brodened there communications, marketing, workforce programs. They also unveiled their new logo, which is a yellow equal sign on a blue blackground. -
Equality Rocks
HRC sponsered a fundrasing concert called Equality Rocks. This concert was tabbed as a concert to honnor hate crime victims and famlies. Over 45,00 people showed up , even Garth Brooks preformed at the concert. -
Short term Leader
Cheryl Jacques replaces Elizabeth Birch as executive dircetor. Cheryl on lasted 11 months and was qouted as saying that a difference in managment philosophy was the reason for her departure. -
Momentous Occasion
During the 2008 presidentail campaign, HRC spent over 7 million dollars in support of presidental nominee Obama which was the largest presidential campaing at the time.
