    Cyrus Conquers Bablyon

    Cyrus the Great frees all slaves and gave people free religion. The people wrote his words onto the Cyrus Cylinder.
  • 27 BCE

    Ancient Rome

    Idea of Natural Law (those in power did not approve).
  • 1215

    Magna Carta

    No one can take the rights of the people, not even a King.
  • British Bill of Rights

    An Act of the Parliament of England that set out certain basic civil rights.
  • America Independance

    American Constitution written.
  • French Revolution

    Wrote a long list of rights that they called natural.
    Natural law - Natural rights.
  • Napoleon Invades Europe

    Napoleon declared himself Emperor of the world, but was defeated by the Europeans. Human rights again hot topic.
  • Napoleon Defeated

    Europe leaders write international agreements, giving Europeans more rights. But only Europeans got this, everywhere else was invaded.
  • Gandhi Leads Protests in India

    Gandhi insisted that all people of Earth have rights.
  • World War 1

    Wars across the globe, human rights violated.
  • World War 2

    Hitler exterminated half the Jewish population on Earth in death camps. 90 million people died.
  • United Nations Established

    Set out to protect human rights.
  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights

    Led by Eleanor Roosevelt, agreed upon by most countries.
