    Women’s voting rights

    Women’s suffrage had first developed in 1916, it was first developed in Manitoba. Time to time it had grew to other provinces around Canada, after almost 4 decades indigenous women had the right to vote in 1960.

    The persons case was a group of 5 women called the Famous Five, they were recognized as the “persons” in court.

    The Indian act of 1951 appealed bans on cultural practices done by the indigenous. Along with this it had granted indigenous women the right to vote as well.

    In 1960 Canadian bill of rights was established by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. This was Canadas first federal law directed towards human rights and freedoms.

    The Big M Drug Mart case was where the Supreme Court ruled a law which did not permit any store to remain open during Sundays, this was due to church running throughout the day. The Big M Drug Mart chose to remain open during these times as they didn’t seek any issue with continuing their service during Sundays.
