For the past few years, more and more greek cities are facing the refugee problem and try in vain to integrate succesfully the refugees. Since many refugees have come in our town it is our duty to embrace and integrate them successfully into the life of our town.So, I took the initiative to create an action plan in order to give the refugees a chance to start a ne life in our town. -
the number of people that can be integrated
First of all, the number of people wh can be successfully integrated according to the population of our town should be settled first. In order to settle this number it woulb be usefull to use as a example the mode that Tilos island provides in order to integrate the refugee people in an effective way as Tilos residents did with success. So, according to that specific model and the population of our town, Kozani can integrate around 70.000 refugees provided organisation s help -

After that, accomondation should be the first priority and the first step so that refugges will be integrated in the city of Kozani. A purpose built camp shoulb be build near the city where refugees can live in Portakabins for a short period of time. Another option is to renew abandoned houses, like Xenias,with the help that NGOs can provide to offer refugees a safe place to stay temporary. At this time special organisations could give allowances to refugees and help them rent an apartment. -
the kind of enterpreneuship that can be developed
The second step that shoulb be done in order to integrate refugees is to offer them job opportunities, so that they can feel useful to the city s community. Men refugee can be employed in farming since, there are many farmers in kozani who need help and have huge holdings where potatoes, peahes and saffrons are cultivated.Wmen can also be employed as house cleaners, waitresses at local restaurants or at local s women s cooperation, where they can cook meals, for those who cannot afford it. -
the ways your school can hep
School can also help a lot and in many ways in the refugee integration procces. For example, schoolls should create special classes where all the refugee people can learn the greek language in order to communicate with the locals. IN addition a welcoming event can be organized in schools so that refugees feel welomed in our town and ocal people be encouraged to accept refugees as their friends. A bazzaar could be included in the event to raise money with which refugees will fulfill their needs -
the potential benefits for local community
In conclusion, there are many ways to integrate successfully a great nmber of refugees who came in our town seeking for a new place to call their home. And lets not forget that there will be multiple benefits for our town since the population will grow and refugees will support the local economy. I hope this action plan is useful and that it will be executed so that refugees will be successfully integrated
