The history of netball
Netball deprived from early basketball in the 1890s. The games lasted 60 minutes. Basketball was created in 1891 by James Naismith in the US and by a further year, Senda Berenson modified the rules for women in 1892 which was when women's basketball arose. Several years later, Martina Bergman-Österberg modified the rules and completed them in 1897 when netball was officially invented. -
First set of rules were revised and published
In 1900, there was 250 copies of the first set of rules created which were then revised and published by the Physical Education Association. -
All England Netball Association
An inaugural meeting was held in London which formed the All England Netball Association. -
Inter County Tournament
The first ever inter county tournament was held with Essex emerging as the first county champions. -
Glasgow Exhibition
Middlesex - the county champions - represented England versus Scotland at Glasgow Exhibition. -
Silver Jubilee
Silver Jubilee was celebrated. Netball demostrated at Festival of Britain Exhibition. -
International Netball Federation
This is the worldwide governing body for netball which includes Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. There are roughly 70 different national members. In 1963, Eastborne had 11 teams. Then in 1995, Birmingam had 27 teams. England Netball has approximately 75,000 affiliated members. -
England's Under 21 Team
England's Under 21 Team tours Jamaica. Scotland's Under 21 team beat England's Under 21 team for the first time. -
Trinidad & Tobago
England team tours Trinidad & Tobago. Australia team tours England and wins all its matches. -
Seventh World Tournaments in Glasgow
This has 17 different counties competing. England retains fourth place behind New Zeraland. England then tours New Zealand. -
Netball at the Commonwealth Games
England U19 squad tours Barbados and Trinidad. The U17 squad tours New Zealand. The West Indies tour Englan dwinning three test Series. The England Open Squad tours Malaysia and Australia. Netball plays at the Commonweald Games for the first time. England beats South Africa to win the Bronze. -
International Netball Tri-Series
In January, England welcomes Jamaica and New Zealand into the internation netball tri-series in January. England Netball were name Sport Governing Body of the year at the BT Sport Industry Awards and the prestigious Cancer Research UK Flame of Hope Award in 2014.
