An Overview of Ernst Mach
Ernst Mach was born February 18th, 1838 in Untersiebenbrunn, Austria. After studying physics at the University of Vienna he became a lecturer there until 1864. From 1867 to 1895 Mach was established as a physics professor at Prague. Mach Bands
Mach Bands are an optical illusion named by Ernst Mach. Mach Bands are described as a band of gradients that appear lighter or darker than they really are. This discovery is useful in that it is a visual illusion that helps scientists and medical professionals study how the brain processes visual information.

Contributions to the Analysis of the Sensations
Ernst Mach covered several topics in his book, to include sensational monism, psycho physic parallelism, spatial vision, time and sensations of time. It is not considered to be a book that the average reader can understand, but rather a book that is better read by an experienced student with expertise in those fields of knowledge.

Mach's Principle
Mach's Principle is the hypothesis that the inertia forces experienced by the body while in motion are determined by the number and how the matter in the universe is distributed. Like Mach's Number, the term Mach's Principle was not created by Mach himself but rather it was named in honor of Mach by Albert Einstein in 1918.

Mach Number
The mach number was not a term created by Ersnt Mach but rather the term was coined by Jakob Ackeret in honor of Mach's work in 1929. Mach Number is used to determine how quickly something travels in reference to the speed of sound, the determined speed is called the Mach Number.
