    On August 9, 2014, an African-American man named Micheal Brown was fatally shot by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, in Ferguson, Missouri.

    Ferguson Unrest

    After the fatal shooting of Micheal Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, people around the country and Missouri came out in mobs and protested police brutality toward African-Americans. Protesters argued that Officer Wilson had no cause to fatally shoot Brown. In the end, Officer Wilson was not convicted of any crimes.
  • Brooklyn Officer Charged

    On July 4, 2016, Officer Wayne Issacs fatally shot a man who reportedly came up to him in his car and punched him while he was off-duty. Officer Issac was charged with second-degree murder for killing the man. He is the first police officer to be charged in the state of New York for police brutality incidents such as these.

    According to The New York Times, there have been 112 protests over the fatal shooting of African-American people by white police officers in the span of 11 days.
  • Shooting of Keith Scott

    On September 20, 2016, Keith Scott was pulled over by two police officers. When asked to get out of the car, Scott seemed oblivious to their requests. The police officers approached the car, ready to break open the windows when a loud noise came from inside the car. Scott got out of the car on the opposite side of the police officers; when the police officers came in front of Scott, one saw an object around his ankle that looked like a gun holder and fatally shot Scott multiple times.

    Charlotte Protesters

    The day after Keith Scott was shot and killed in Charlotte, North Carolina, protesters all around North Carolina to raise awareness and earn justice for Keith and victims like him. Some protests turned violent, one man was shot during a protest by a police officer and is now in the hospital in critical condition.

    A group of people gathered out in front of a train station in Boston on September 23, 2016, to peacefully protest the recent acts of police brutality across the world. Each person had a chance to express their feelings on the issue in front of a large group of people.
  • Stop and Frisk Law Controversy

    The Stop and Frisk Law is a law that allows police at any time to give a quick pat down and question any person who they see, that they find to seem suspicious. This has recently started controversy across the nation over the constitutionality of the law.
