Holocaust Timeline

  • Hitler Comes to Absolute Power

    March 24th was when the enabling acts were passed by the German parliament, giving Hitler full control of the country. Hitler used Jews as an enemy of the people and will keep treating them like that for another 12 years.
  • Nuremberg Laws Passed

    The Nuremberg laws were laws that took away German citizenship from Jews and placed them under the title of "subjects" in Germany. These laws also classified who is considered a Jew, and what levels of Jew there are. There are full Jews with 3 or more Jewish grandparents, and first and second-degree jews with 2 and 1 Jewish grandparents. All of those are considered a Jew, and apply to all of these laws.
  • Nazis Invade Austria

    The Nazis invade Austria and ally with them due to both countries being from the same ethnicity. Austria has a population of around 200,000 Jews, which will all be apart of the Nuremberg laws and are going to be put in concentration camps eventually.
  • Kristallnacht

    Meaning "Night of the broken glass" Kristallnacht was the word for the day when Germany destroyed thousands of Jewish businesses, burned down synagogs, and even killed around 100 Jews. Thousands were also sent to concentration camps.
  • The St. Louis

    The St. Louis was a boat that a group of Jews rode to escape the Nazis in Germany. They fled Europe and were going to dock in Cuba until they said no. The Jews went to the United States and were also Turned down, being forced to return to Europe resulting in them forced back to Nazi rule, and showing how other countries treated the runaway Jews. It also showed how the countries didn't even know about the holocaust.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    On September 1st, 1939, Hitler and the Nazis invaded Poland, taking it over and starting WWII. There are a lot of Jews in Poland, making it not safe for any of them to live there anymore.
  • Auschwitz is created

    Auschwitz was the concentration camp that killed over 1.1 million Jews. It was one of the largest and most popular camps the Nazis ever created. This was the day when the Nazis decided that it would be a good place to build one.
  • Germany Invades the Soviet Union

    Germany, who had a non-aggression act with Russia, invaded them and continued to slaughter any Jews who were near them. Einsatzgruppen, or mobile killing units, killed all the Jews behind German lines. Over 500,000 soviet Jews were slaughtered.
  • The Final Solution

    The Final Solution was the day when Hermann Goering, chief of the SD, created a memorandum describing the need for a final solution. After this, Jews all around Europe were marked for execution and all were transported to Polish concentration camps and ghettos.
  • Mass Killings at Auschwitz Begin

    January 1942 marks the beginning of the mass killings of Jews at Auschwitz concentration camp. The Nazis used Gas chambers to kill and mass graves to bury the bodies.
  • Krakow Ghetto Liquidated

    The Krakow Ghetto was the first concentration camp or ghetto to be liquidated from Nazi rule. This begins the capture of many camps and liquidation of many Jews in the next 2 years before the war ends.
  • Hitler Dies

    On April 30th, 1945, Adolf Hitler's bunker gets invaded by soviet troops and he chooses to kill himself. This marks the end of his rule over Germany and the end of the holocaust.
