The Hockey Helmet
In the 1800s hockey players didn't wear any protective helmets on their head. Therefore the photo below is a current hockey helmet that can be found in stores today.Hockey helmets are made with or without a cage at the front and the choice is based on the player's preference.Hockey helmets grip the head by cupping the back of the head. The helmet size is adjusted by loosening the screws on the side. The shell of a hockey helmet is generally made of vinyl nitrile and foam to get the proper shape. -
The Classic Hockey Stick
In the 1880s, the first hockey stick manufacturers were in Canada. The sticks were hand carved and only made out of a single piece of wood. As the decades went by, the hockey sticks were composed of more materials like: glue, blades, fiberglass and many more. Today, most hockey sticks are different varying on their length, shape, circumference, flexibilty, and balance. In order to have all of these new and improved features this sticks today are composed of wood, aluminum, fibergalss and titanium -
The Hockey Puck
Without this small piece of rubber, there wouldn't be hockey. The tribes of early North America first created the puck by using cherrywood and carving them with their bare hands. Obviously without all of the machinery that we use today the shape and circumference of the puck wouldn't be ideal to be played on the ice. Today the pucks are made of: a mixture of natural rubber, antioxidants, bonding materials and other chemicals. These materials help to achieve a balance of hardness and resilience. -
The Hockey Skate
As seen in the photo below, in the 1890s they didn't have boot skates to put your foot in but just the blade itself. Therefore you had to put your shoe on the blade. That caused low support and many injuries. They were made from the leg bones of a horse. Today, the skates are made of molded plastic, leather, and ballistic nylon. They get their shape from molded plastic with a blade attached to the bottom of the mold. This materials allow skaters to get the full benefit of skating with no injuries. -
Hockey Gloves
Hockey gloves help prevent the skaters hands of getting bruised and battered, it also stops them from getting burned from the ice. Back in the day hockey gloves were poorly made with no protection and were made out of a solid plastic.Today the top padding and shell of the thumb is designed to help protect the player from flying hockey pucks and sticks. The traditional four-roll style has a tighter fit and are specifically designed for better wrist mobility and range of motion. -

CONCLUSION
Thank you very much! I hope that this presentation and timeline have given you strong understanding of the most used hockey equipment and how they used to be in the 1800's. It was very interesting to learn about the safety conditions to the materials used to make these types of equipment that I personally use today along with so many other players.
