    Neville was the prime minister in Britain. When Chamberlin lost Norway to Hitler he gave his position to Churchill.

    Winston Churchill

    Churchill became the prime minister of Britain. He realized what a threat Germany was to Britain by seeing the territory that was already taken. When the Germans came into Britain Churchill was brave and able to keep the country out of their reach.

    Joseph Stalin

    • Stalin was the head of the Soviet Union. Hitler and Stalin had very different ideas; however they formed the Nazi -Soviet Pact. Stalin was betrayed by Hitler as he tried to take over Stalin’s country. Hitler was unsuccessful and Stalin remained in control.

    Benito Mussolini

    He was the dictator of Italy. He was defeated by Adolf Hitler and was a believer in Fascism. Mussolini was executed.

    Hideki became the prime minister and fully supporeted the Nazis. He was at first confident with war aginst the US but slowly lost hope. He was captured by the US army and excuted.

    He was the dictator of Germany during World War II. Hitler is often blamed for the war because he kept expanding territory till war was declared. He is also blamed for the Holocaust which he started. Hitler today is a hated man by most throughout the world.

    He was looked at as the true military leader in World War II for the French. He had a huge impact on the military.

    Francisco Franco

    Franco was the leader of the revolt on that caused the spanishe civil war. Franco’s followers were called Nationalist. This was one of the bloodiest civil wars .

    The Holocaust

    This was when Hitler built concentration camps in Poland. There he sent Jews and other races that he didn’t think was right. His main discrimination was against the Jews he would send them to these camps where they would be beaten, shot, over worked, starved, and put in to gas showers. There was almost immediate death young, old, and sick. About six million people died from this torture. This was significant because so many lives were lost and is looked at a lot in today’s times for how wrong it

    Italian Invasion of Ethiopia

    Mussolini wanted to continue his imperialism and conquer Ethiopia. He did this by invading and though the Ethiopians fought back because of their advanced weapons Italy was able to conquer them. The League of Nations decided to have sanctions against Italy but had no power to enforce them.
  • Occupation of the Rhineland

    Germans had strong hatred towards the Treaty of Versailles and Hitler was popular by testing it. Here he found a weakness and tried to “demilitarize” Rhineland. This was against the treaty; instead of being punished they formed the policy of appeasement.

    The Spanish Civil War

    This was a very bloody civil war between the nationalist and the communist. Francisco Franco led the revolt and leaders from all different nations got involved. IT was a very vicious fight and more than 500,000 people died. Franco won power and was a dictator
  • Air Raid on Guernica

    Germans dropped bombs on this small Spanish town. After that they went and killed anyone who was still alive with machine guns. It was an experiment to see how their new plans would go and killed almost 1,000 innocent people.
  • The Anschluss

    Hitler wanted a union between Austria and Germany; however the leader of Austria did not want the same. Hitler made a speech from Hofburg palace and although there was a quick war Hitler got his way and won without any consciences.
  • Munich Conference

    At this conference British and French leaders decided to allow Hitler to have the lands and ask the Czech to surrender. They only allowed this to take place because Hitler promised he would not seize anymore land and there was wide spread pacifism. This is significant because Hitler lied and continued to seize land leading to war.
  • Annexation of Czechoslovakia

    Hitler wanted to take over Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia was one of the two countries to still have a democracy. Hitler again won the right to take the land over at the Munich Conference because the other nations wanted no war. This is significant because it gave Hitler more power and a bigger nation.
  • Nazi- Soviet Pact

    This was a pact between Stalin and Hitler. This shocked the other nations because they had always been enemies. They agreed secretly not to fight when the other country went to war and to divide up Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe. This also was based off of fear of each other. This was important because it got Stalin, the only person who was a threat to Hitler, out of the way.

    This was when Germany invaded Poland it was a week after the pact formed. Hitler fought this war as a blitzkrieg which the Germans used their new formed war weapons. Britain and France then declared war and World War II started. This was a huge event because it lasted many year and many lost their lives.
  • Formation of " Free the French"

    This was a group of French officers who escaped and went to England. These workers were led by Charles de Gaulle and wanted to bring liberty to their homeland. This important because even though they were defeated they were fighting German control.
  • Formation of Vichy France

    This was a “puppet state” set up by the Germans in southern France. It was one of the only territories that was able to stay French when the Germans took over. Throughout the whole war it kept is government and was an ally to the Germans. This made the people in Free the French angry, but it was how it kept independence.
  • Fall of France

    France was in major trouble when Italy declared war and started the attack, this caused France to surrender. The Germans had control of the north and set up a “puppet state” in the south. This was significant because it gave Germany more power and it had defeated on country.
  • Battle of Britain

    This was one of Germany’s only defeats in World War II. They bombed Italy at night and even though they continued to bomb they never surrendered and the king and queen stayed eventually Germany pulled out of this war. This was very important because it remained a separate land form Germany and was able to show defeat was possible.
  • Formation of the Rome- Berlin- Tokya Axis

    This was formed by Germany, Italy, and Japan due to the weakness of the other nations. The agreement was that they would fight soviet communist and not get involved in territorial expansion for other nations. This formation was called the Axis powers.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    This was Germany’s attack on Russia and attempts to defeat the Soviet Union. Russia tried to win by burning all the supplies and food in the path so that Germany would not be able to use them, however in the end this did not work. The Russians were not defeated however because winter hit the Germans hard and they were not able to take over, but Russia was in bad conditions. This was important because it was another defeat against Hitler and also was a dark spot for the Russians as they faced so
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    • This was a surprise attack on the Americans launched by General Tojo. The Japanese dropped bombs on the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, this ruined lives and supplies needed for battle. The US then declared war on Japan. This was a major even because the United States had kept neutrality until this event.

    The Battle of Midway

    This was a big victory for the Americans against Japan. They fought the whole battle in the air. After this battle Japan did not launch anymore offenses and they lost 4 carriers and over 250 planes. This was important because it is when the United States pushed toward the defeat of Japan. After this battle Japan started to island hop and recapture lands.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    This was a battle of Stalin against Hitler and was one of the most expensive battles. This was the battle where Hitler tried to capture Stalin’s city. Hitler was unsuccessful and forced to surrender, he also left the Soviet Union entirely.

    El Alamein

    This was the battle where the British put a stop to the Axis talking over the Suez Canal. Hitler did not want to pull out of this battle but there were scarce resources and eventually there was no other option.

    This was the day the Allies invaded France and tied to fight Germany. They were successful and had a good plan to. They came in through the English Channel and had lots of armed forces. France won back its independence as Germany was forced to surrender.

    Battle of the Bugle

    This battle was a very violent battle. The Germans could not break through the battle and the battle also delayed the Allies advance as well. By this time Hitler’s support was disappearing.

    Iwo Jima

    This was an island where Japan would take drastic measures to win. They would send kamikaze to crash into the American warships. This is when the atomic bomb was first offered as an option and became an affect.
  • V-E Day

    Hitler had committed suicide and the Allies were finally able to defeat Germany. They were able to defeat the axis powers for many reasons like location, no one to take charge, and supplies.
  • Decision to use Atomic Weapons

    The atomic bomb was decide to be used because American president Truman warned Japan to surrender or he would cause destruction and they did not listen. They dropped the first bomb in Hiroshima and when they still did not back down they dropped the second one in Nagasaki. This killed many but finally they decided to surrender.
  • V-J Day

    This was the day Japan finally surrendered. This was the end of the total war. This took many years of fighting and two atomic bombs being dropped. They signed the peace treaty in the battleship Missouri which was in Tokyo Bay.
