    columbus

    Columbus set sail to find the indies on august 3 1492. He sailed from Spain later in there trip Columbus his crew grew tired of there trip and almost had a mutiny. they landed on one of the Bahamian islands.
  • jamestown

    on may 14 1607 the first group of colonists settled Jamestown by James river they struggled at first with what they had. because of disease and Indians, they were brought to the brink of destruction. It was the first permanent English settlement
  • french indian war

    The French and Indian war was started in 1756 it was a long war both country's were supported from there home country's as well as American Indians the British had colonist the French had colonist and really depended on the Indians.
  • boston tea party

    The Boston tea party happened on the 16 of December 1773. some of the colonist disguised themselves a native Americans and climbed onto the boats and through all of the tea and stuff like that overboard. They did this to show that they did agree with the tea tax witch is basically a heavy tax on tea
  • battle at lexington and concord

    In April 1775 British troops were sent to confiscate the colonists weapons but when they got there that’s not what happened. Instead they ran into a angry militia mob that killed around 700 British soldiers this surprise attack boosted moral a lot considering most were just farmers.

    on July 4, 1776 The declaration of independence I the document that was signed that declared independence from great Britain, and told Britain that they were 13 independent colony’s.
  • battle of yorktown

    The date is September 29-October 19 1781 the victory was a combined effort between French troops and colonists. I am sorry but that is all I have to say about Yorktown
  • consttuional convention

    What was it it was the? They met to talk about there government.
    All of this happened between 1787-1789
    The reason they were talking about there government was because and so I quote “to talk of the problems of a weak central government”

  • the alien and sedition acts

    It is a series of laws passed by the federalist congress in1789 and put into the law by president Adams.
    It made it so that Immigrants were not allowed into the USA.
    The act actually got over twenty newspaper editors arrested because they did not like what they said. ( no freedom of speech right there)
  • the invention of the cotton gin

    In 1794 Eli Whitney patented the cotton gin which sped up cotton pick a whole ton.
    Due to that slavery expanded some.
    Whitney never mad much money off it due to patent infringement's.
  • louisianna purchase

    Thomas Jefferson purchased about 828,000,000sqare miles from France.
    Part of 15 states were later created from it.
    The territory was from the rocky mountains to the Mississippi river, and from the Canadian border to the gulf of The Louisiana purchase in 1803 doubled the size of America at the time.

    The USA took on the greatest navel power at the time.
    Britain tried to stop USA trade while we tried to expand. The united states celebrated the war as the second independence war.

    In 1819 congress was trying to defuse the political rivalry's about slavery.
    Because if it was a slave state it would upset the balance of slave and free states. So they made a compromise that divided the north and south.

    The elections in 1828 was the 11 presidential election it was a rematch between john Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson
  • invention of the telegraph

    Developed in the 1830s 40s by Samuel Morse and other inventers the telegraph enabled long distance communication.

  • the trail of tears

    At the beginning of the 1830s there was around 125,000 Indians ins some of the southern states. They were kicked out of there home because cotton farmers wanted there land so the government kicked them off of it. And the government made special places for them to live.

    So the crisis was that wages went down and there was a lot of unemployment there was a lot of pessimism that I read

    Mexico lost about one third of its territory.
    This was the first war fought on foreign soil. The USA president James k Polk believed in an expansion to the pacific ocean.
    We got five states from that war if not more

    So if I remember right the year before California requested to be a free state but that would upset the balance so senator henry clay there were a bunch of different laws that went along with it.
  • the firing on fort sumter

    Fort Sumter was the first battle of the civil war after battling for a while union genal Anderson surrendered the fort on April 12 1861
    The fort was in the middle of a river I thought that was a little strange.
  • emancipation proclomation

    By 1862 when Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation it did not free really any slaves. ( here is an opinion of a past teacher that I thought was good, the slaves almost did not know what to do with freedom and lot of slave were fine with being on a plantation, and even if every slave was freed the north did not want the slaves and there would not even be enough shelter or jobs in the north, so at that particular moment the slaves were better off where they were)
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    On April 9 1865 Robert e lee surrendered to Ulysses s grant lee abandoned there capital of Richmond. And that is all I got for this part.
  • lincolns assassination

    On April 14 1865 john w booth an actor assassinated president Lincoln at ford theater in Washington dc it happened 5 days after lee surrendered his army
  • 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments

    They are sometimes know as the civil war amendments. The 13th bands slavery the 14th give equal rights to everybody, and the 15th gave the slaves the right to vote. I think they were written between 1865and 1870
  • andrew johnsons imoeachment

    On February 24 1868 the house of representatives voted 126 to 47 against the president. They impeached him for his crimes against the 2 article of the constitution
  • The Organization of Standard Oil Trust

    In 1870 john Rockefeller owned the worlds largest oil refinery of the time. The standard oil trust. ( I am not entirely sure what it did but it lowered the cost of oil and made it easier to get)
  • The invention of the electric light, telephone, and airplane

    They were some pretty great inventions the telephone made communication easier quicker and better. The light made a safer way to get light and it was better because you are not going to accidently drop something onto a fire (my opinion) the air plain made it possible to travel farther faster and allowed you to go over more treacherous terrain
    It happened between 1877-1880

  • Pullman and homestead strikes

    On June 30th 1892 there was a big strike and industrial lockdown for the homestead steel works, the strike had a lot of violence there was 12 killed 23 wounded.
  • spanish american war

    there was a conflict between USA and Spain.
    The wat started when Cuba tried to break free of Spain's control.
    The fighting was not to bad for the USA but after the war the USA told Spain to leave and gave Cuba independence it happend April 1898
  • Theodore Roosevelt becomes president

    Theodore Roosevelt became president on September 14 1901
    He started the building of the panama canal he won a peace prize for negotiations during the Russo Japanese war.
    (here is a fun fact I found I am not sure but while he was president he participated in a boxing match that left him blind in one eye)
