Chesapeake
For most of the 17th century, the Tobacco buisiness was very popular in Virginia. They enacted what was called the headright system, which meant that if a person could pay there way over to this area, then they could have 50 free acers of land to grow the tobacco. Not enough people were able to pay there way over, so many people borrowed money, and worked for 3-7 years to pay off their debt. During this time, they had very little freedom. -I recieved this information from the course lecture. -
French and Indian War
The British won the French and Indian War, and, among many things, raised taxes. They enforced, "Taxation without representation." -I found this infomation from the course lecture. -
Declaration of Independance
The Declaration of Independance was the official document stating that the thirteen original colonies were now part of America, and no longer under British control. -I found this information in the course lecture. -
War of 1812
The war of 1812 was fought between the United States and the British empire. The United states declared war because, among many reasons, the British had trade restrictions, which were not resolved from the French and Indian War. -I found this information in the course lecture. -
Reconstruction Era
During the Reconstruction Era, after the Civil War, African-Americans were considered second-class citizens until during the 1970's. -I found this information in the course lecture. -
Fifteenth Amendment
The Fifteenth Amendment was ratified on February 3, 1870. This amendment allowed all American Citizens to vote, regarless of race or color. -I found this information in the course lecture. -
Chinese Exclusion Act

Bonus Army March
After World War 1, the veterans were promised a bonus for their military services. This bonus was only to be given in 1945. Many of the veterans wanted the money earlier, so they set up camp by the capital, and protested. -I found this information in the course lecture. -
Japanese Internment Camps
On February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt authorized the internment of Japanese internment. They were seperated from their communities, and put into designated camps, because of their race. -
