German Invasion of Poland
on September 1,1939 the German Nazis invaded poland with about 1.5 million troops. The German Luftwaffe was bombing Polish air feilds, also German U boats were attacking the Polish Navy in the Baltic Sea. Polland then declared war on Germany starting WWII

Operation Barbarossa
On June 22,1941 Nazi Germany and its Axis Allies began an invasion of the Soviet Union. 4.5 million troops launched a surprise attack on Poland. Hitler broke the non-aggression pack with Poland and invaded. The Soviets were unprepared to fight and fell hard. But as the winter came the German forces came to a hault. The Battle of Moscow was apart of Operation Barbarossa. Germany thought that if they conqured Moscow( capital of Russia, and the Soviet Unions headquarters) that they would have a major advantage and become undefeatable in the war. Germany surrounded moscow and destroyed it by a man-made flood.

Germany took a great deal of the city but failed to fully assert their authority. Which then caused for Russia to fight for their land. Areas captured by Germans during the day were re-taken at night by the Russians. When Germany failed to take over, is was a major disaster for them. They lost equiptment, soldiers, and anpower. -

This battle was an attempt by the Germans to get the offensive after its defeat in the Battle of Stalingrad. The red army established good defensive postions and gathered large forces in reserve. This led to the largest loss in a single day. Germany had fallen.

Hiroshima/Nagasaki
Hiroshima was the city ,that the first atomic bomb( dropped my the U.S. )dropped on. The U.S dropped a bomb on Hiroshima and another bomb on Nagasaki so avoid going into Japan. Both bombs killed thousands of people and left the citys and countries in ruins.
