Indian Removal Act
The Indian Removal Act was signed by Andrew Jackson in 1830, Jackson signed the Act because the Five Tribes weren't moving voluntarily. The one goal they had, Assimilation was no longer the goal for them, so Jackson signed the Act for that reason. -
Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears was the five Tribes that were forced to move to Indian Territory now Oklahoma, the settlers who were with them mistreated them and 13% of them died due to sickness on the way there. -
Civil War
The Civil War was between the Union and the Confederacy, The Civil War was about freeing or not freeing slaves, the Natives also played a part of fighting on the Confederate or Union side because the Natives also had slaves, the War was fought in the Indian Territory. -
Reconstruction Treaties
The Reconstruction Treaties required former slaves that the Tribe had to enroll as Tribal members, this was the second Indian Removal Act, and they were forced to relocate for the westward expansion. -
The Dawes Act
The Dawes Act was when the Government signed the act where it was aimed to the Tribes to assimilate into American Society. -
Oklahoma Land Rush
The Oklahoma Land Rush was when the Gov opened the land to the white settlers came running or rushing in to get the new land to them. -
Indian Reorganization Act
The Act affected the Natives highly because the Tribes lost significant Control over their identities and their membership of their land.
