The adoption of the North Carolina Constitution of 1776 was when the colonial leaders of North Carolina decided to right out a constitution that would establish the state government of North Carolina. At the time of the adoption of the North Carolina Constitution of 1776, the colonies were trying to gain independence from Great Britain.

The Seneca Falls Convention
The Seneca Falls Convention was a convention of a group of women and some men that met in Seneca Falls, New York. The goal of the meeting was to gain the right to vote and equal rights for woman. The events that had led to the convention was that woman did not have equal rights as men. Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow Laws is all of the laws that were made to deny African Americans rights and to keep them under white people. Some examples of Jim Crow laws would include the segregation laws, the poll tax, literacy tax, and the grandfather clause. Events that would lead to Jim Crow was the end of the civil war. Passage of the Fifteenth Amendment
The Fifteenth Amendment had made it illegal for states to refuse people to vote because of race. The passage of the Seventeenth Amendment had changed to method to which US Senators were elected. Senators are now able to be voted by the people instead of the old method which was being elected by the state legislature. The Nineteenth Amendment had expanded the ability for people to vote to now include women. Women all around the nation were protesting and were trying to change the laws so that women were able to vote. The Indian Citizenship Act
The Indian Citizenship Act had given Native Americans citizenship if they were born in the United States. The events that led to this act is when the government has been giving citizenship to Native Americans if they had done something for the nation like fighting in a war. The Twenty-Third Amendment had given Washington, D.C., some people in the electoral college since it has many people living there. This amendment had given the people of Washington, D.C. a voice in selecting a president. Passage of the Twenty-Fourth Amendment
The passage of the Twenty-Fourth had gotten rid of the poll tax that many states in the South had used so that poor African Americans were unable to vote. A poll tax is a tax that a person has to pay in order to vote. Voting Rights Act of 1965
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and had removed all literacy test and grandfather clauses that someone has to have in order to vote. The event that had led to this act was the Civil Rights Movement which was trying to gain rights for African Americans. Passage of Twenty-Sixth Amendment
The Twenty-Sixth Amendment had lowered the minimum voting age from twenty-one years old to eighteen years old. This amendment was the result of Americans being outraged about the draft for the Vietnam War.
