Tennis for Two
In 1958, an American physicist by the name of William Higinbotham, invented the first ever video game. The game was called Tennis for Two and it was the start of the first generation of video games. -
Games on TV
Shortly after these two inventions many other games and video games started being developed. In 1962, "Spacewar!", a space combat game invented by Steve Russell of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1967 a game that could finally be played on a TV was invented. The game was called The Brown Box and it was programmed by a man named Ralph Baer. -
Arcade Games
The second generation of video games: Arcade games. The first coin-operated arcade game was invented. It was called the “Galaxy Game”. However this game was never widely popular and was only popular on the college campus it was built on. The following arcade games were more or less just more advanced versions of previously invented things. -
The Golden Era
That is until what is considered “The Golden Era of Video Games”. Many of the gaming companies and games that are big today came from this time period. Sega, Capcom, Namco and Nintendo were birthed during this period. The golden era began with the invention of the Atari in 1976, to 1984 with Nintendo’s Hogan Valley. -
3 Dimensional Games
The fifth generation of three-dimensional gaming changed everything. In 1995 Sega released the first ever 3D game. This was followed by a trade off between Sega and Nintendo of releasing 3d games. -
Release of the PS2
In 2000, Sony entered the talks of gaming with its Playstation and Playstation 2. The Playstation 2 brought a whole new look at video games and still remains the best selling video game console of all-time. -
Modern Day Gaming
In 2005, the Playstation 3 and XBOX360 introduced modern day gaming. This changed how gaming was looked at as far as capabilities. -
8th Generation Gaming
The current generation of gaming we’re in. It began with the release of the Wii U in 2012.
