Monroe Doctrine
A doctrine made by President Monroe that stated if any European nations attempt to colonize North or South America, the U.S. would intervene. -
Roosevelt Corollary
A variation of the Monroe Doctrine put into effect by President Roosevelt to not allow European intervention between Latin America. -
World War I
Took place in central Europe where many nations were involved. A total of nearly 9 million soldiers died, and 7 million civilians were killed. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
Occured during World War I, where Germany waged war against the United Kingdom. The ship was torpedoed by the Germans and sank in 18 minutes. -
Good Neighbor Policy
the foreign policy of the administration of United States President Franklin Roosevelt towards Latin America. The policy stated the U.S. would not interfere with domestic affairs of Latin America. -
World War II
A global wat that involved more than 30 nations, includind all of the great powers. It was the most wide spread war in history. There were an estimated 50-85 million people dead, making it the deadliest war in history. -
Pearl Harbor
A surprise attack by the Japanese on the U.S. in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, a U.S. shipyard. This made the U.S. enter into the WWII. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
Atomic bombings made out by the U.S. on Hiroshima, a city in Japan in the final stages of WWII. About 166,000 people died from the bombing. -
Truman Doctrine
A U.S. policy to stop the Soviet Union from expanding during the Cold War. -
Marshall Plan
A plan to give Europe economic support. The U.S. gave Europe $17 billion in support at the end of WWII to stop the spread of communism. -
Korean War
War between North and South Korea. They split up after WWII and North Korea, joined by China and the Soviet Union, invaded South Korea, joined by the United Natione led by the U.S. -
Vietnam War
War betewwn the U.S. and South Vietnam on one side, and North Vietnam supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies on the other. -
Eisenhower Doctrine
Speech by President Eisenhower to Congress about the situation in the Middle East. It stated the a Middle Eastern country could ask for economic or military assistance if it was being threatened by armed aggression. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
A confrontation between the Soviet Union and the U.S. about missiles found in Cuba pointed at the U.S. The Soviets denied they had missiles in Cuba, but with photographic evidence from the U.S., the Soviets withdrew their missiles program from Cuba. -
Operation Desert Storm
A war against Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. It was led by the U.S. along with 34 other nations. -
9/11
A coordinated attack on the U.S. by al Queda where two terrorists hijacked two airline jets and flew them into both World Trade Centers. Also, two more planes were hijacked where one flew into the Pentagon, and the other the passengers took control of the plane from the hijackers and flew it into a field in Pennsylvania. It is rumored that plane was headed for the White House. -
Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom)
Name for the War in Afghanistan where a series of military attacks to retaliate for the September 11 attacks. -
War on Terror
War of retalitaion against the 9/11 attacks. The war was to terminate and destroy terrorist groups in the Middle East. -
Operation Iraqi Freedom
Mission to get rid of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and ability to develop weapons of mass destruction. -
Air Strikes on ISIS
Air strikes by the U.S. on ISIS, a terrorist group that has made repeated threat to the U.S.
