Golf is Born
The golf is born, The MK1 golf was intented to be a replacement modern front-wheel drive car to replace the then aging bettle. -
Golf is released as the rabbit in the US market
It was a water-cooled, front wheel drive design in a hatchback body style. It featured firmly sprung and damped, independent MacPherson strut front suspension and semi-independent Twist-beam rear suspension, that gave crisp handling and good roadholding, without being too uncomfortable. -
GTI Released in Europe
In 1976 first GTI was released in the European Markets, The idea was to take a economy car and add a high performace package to give a more agressive styling to create a sports car feel while keep it a economy car. -
Westmoreland, PA VW plant
In 1978, the westmoreland VW Plant starts producing the rabbit. -
Rabbit Pickup and Cabriolet
The VW line of vehicles adds the rabbit Pickup and Cabrilet to further appeal to the public. -
GTI Released in US market
The GTI is finally brought across the pond and released in the US market. -

Westmoreland plant shutdown
Due to slow sales VW America decides to shutdown the westmoreland plant. Two years latter sony would take over in 1990 to start production of TV in the plant that once gave birth to the rabbit so many years ago. -
MK3 released in the US market
The third gen golf begins selling the US Market -
GTI recieves another upgrade
The GTI gets a power plant of an engine with the introdution of the 6 cylinder engnine dubed the VR6. With the updated engine the GTI now producded a whooping 178 HP.
