In 1999, the United States hosted the women's world cup. The US team had made it to the championship game againt China. After playing the full 90 minutes and extra time, the scored remained at 0-0. The teams went into shoot outs and Briana Scurry had saved China's 3rd kick and the two teams were tied 4-4 as Brandi Chastain stepped up as the final shooter. She made her shot and slid on her knees and ripped her shirt off in celebration. This act was spread all over news within the nest week. -

Mia Hamm and Michelle Akers were named to the FIFA 100. This is a list of the top 125 players in the history of the sport. These two were not only the only women on the list, but the only Americans. -
World Cup Defeat
The US team had made it to the final match against Japan. The women fell short in a shoot out and suffered from a tough lost. -
