Nikola Tesla's demonstration

1893

He wirelessly transmitted electromagnetic energy. He made the first demonstration 1893.

First radio.

1897

Marconi builds the first wireless telegraphy system based on radio transmissions previously showed by Nikola Tesla. Its application was demonstrated in marine and military communications. Marconi was later awarded a patent of the radio by the US Patent Office in 1904.

First transAtlantic signal.

1901

First transAtlantic signal sent-by Marconi from Ireland to Canada.

1906

It's the 1st to transmit a program of speech and music via radio.

First radio transmission from an airplane.

1910

First radio transmission used to communicate with an airplane mid-air.

Titanic

1912

The Titanic hits an iceberg, while sinking they use wireless radio to contact other ships for assistance, following this event, large ships started to use radio in order to dont get this event once again.

First Commercial Radio Station

1920

KDKA is created, being the first commercial radio station in order to announce government elections.

NBC

1926

NBC was the first permanent national network, now it is a television network in the USA

FM Radio

1933

Armstrong patents FM radio in 1933. The frequency modulation allows interferences from electrical devices to be reduced, resulting in clearer sound when transmitting, what we now know as FM.

Transistor radio

1954

Texas Instruments produces the first commercial transistor radio, launching the portable electronic age which allows us to keep our radio outdoors aswell.

Digital radios

1995

By the end of the decade, it started to pop up some digital radios, also XM Radio came up in 2001.
