On september 17th 1920 a group of men gathered in Canton Ohio and the resut of this meeting was the birth of the NFL. At the start of the league was when William Heffelfinger was paid $500.00 to play a game for the Allegheny Athletic Association. Which at the time was the biggest football league around. -

Bert Bell was a co owner of the Philidelphia Eagles and he was stugling to put a good team on The feild so he proposed that the NFL should be able to draft their players and that is how the draft was born. -

Before this they used hard and soft leather helmets and to this day they still use plastic helmets. -
