in 1917 the Smith Hughes Act established funding for national agriculture in High school -
1920- Virginia was first
in 1920 Virginia was the first state to have Futures Farmers Clubs for boys. -
1928- FFA becomes a national organization
In 1928 FFA becomes a national organization. A network of teachers guided the establishment of FFA as a team effort to establish a club for boys with similar farm interests. -
1935- NFA was formed
In 1935 NFA was formed (New Farmers Of America) for black students in the south. -
1950- FFA receive a Federal Charter from Congress
In 1950 FFA became one of a few students organizations to receive a Federal Charter from Congress (Public Law 740) -
1965- FFA and NFA merge
FFA and NFA merge in 1965 -
1969- girls are allowed to join FFA
In 1969 girls were allowed in FFA for the first time -
1988- name change
In 1988 FFA changed their name to National FFA Organization to reflect the growing diversity in the agricultural industry. -

In 2012 the National Convention completes 7 year run in Indianapolis and returns to Louisville Kentucky in 2013 for 3 years.
