First Lamp
The first lamp was created by Humphrey Davy. It was an incandescent lamp. It was made from a bank of batteries and two charcole rods. This sort of lamp supplied many people with their first electrical streetlight. -
Geissler Tube
Two men from Europe identified that they could produce light by passing an electrical current through a long glass tube and removing almost all of the air. This was called a Geissler Tube. They have become the basic of many lighting technology. -
Edison
Edison focused on the whole lighting system. Proving that it was possible to distribute electricity from a central location. -
Tungsen light bulbs
Tungsen light bulbs were invented in 1904. These lightbulbs lasted for long periods of time. They were brighter and more efficient than lamps with carbon filaments. -
Fluro Lights
Researchers were doing experiments with neon tubes covered with phosphors. These experiments helped spark fluorescent lamp research in other countries around the world. -
LED
Nick Holonyak Jr. discovered the first visible LED in the form or red diodes. After this, pale yellow and green diodes were invented. -
Manufacturing
Manufacturing companies began using LED lights in consumer products. For eg. Calculator displays for maths and indicator lights for cars.
