Jayavarman I reigns
Jayavarman 1 was said to have been the first king of the Khmer Empire as it was evolved out of the Kamboja Kingdom. Jayavarman was a strong person which led to his decision to divide Cambodia. -

Civil war is fought between Jayaviravarman and Suryavarman
In 1002 a civil war broke out between Jayaviravarman and Suryavarman. This was because the King Jayavarman V died a year earlier and there was a fight to whom should be crowned king of the Khmer Empire. This how the war started, and this war continued for seven years until Jayaviravarman ran out of men and Suryavarman was the man sitting on the throne. -

Suryavarman II reigns
Suryavarman II was the head of the Khmer Empire at the time of the designing of Angkor Wat. He decided to design it because he wanted to be the most creative and powerful king that had ever lived. -

Jayavarman VIII reigns.
Jayavarman VII reigned in 1181-1218. He was the son of King Dharanindravarman II and Queen Sri Jayarajacudamani. He married Jayarajadevi and then, after her death, married her sister Indradevi. -

Indravarman II reigns.
ndravarman II was the son of Jayavarman VII. There is some dispute regarding the actual period of his reign but there are reports that he died in 1243. -

Khmer Empire comes to an end
The Khmer Empire came to an end in 1432. For many years the Thai invaded Angkor many times which weakened the Khmer's severely. In 1432, the Thais had a massive siege and everyone living there at the time fled, even the King at the time but some Buddhist monks stayed and looked after Angkor. -
Jayavarman II founds the Khmer Empire
The Khmer Empire was founded by Jayavarman the 2nd. He was born in Java 770 and he died in 850. Jayavarman II was the man who reunited the old kingdom of Chenla. Jayavarman II was born in Jaya and he was chosen as king under hindu practises. -
Harshavarman I reigns.
Harshavarman I reigned as an Angkorian king from 910 to 923. He died in 923 and later following his death Yasovarman I was succeeded by his two sons, the elder of which was Harshavarman. During this time his eldest son was the man who marked this period of time as instability for the Khmer Empire. -
Rajendravarman II reigns
Rajendravarman II was the king of the Khmer Empire, from 944 to 968. Rajendravarman II was a nephew of former king Yasovarman I. His principal monuments, located in the Angkor region of Cambodia's Siem Reap province, are Pre Rup and East Mebon.
