Democritus
Democritus created the conseption of the atom. He described it as a billard ball. This was his theory however to lack of technology to prove his theory and the fact he had no way of his news to get around it didnt take off. -

Democritus and Dalton Model
-
Dalton
John Dalton made 3 theories that remain valid to this day: 1) All matter is made of atoms 2) Atoms are indivisible and indestructible 3) Compounds are made by combining 2+ of different atoms together -
Thompson
Joseph John Thompson discovered the electron. He found that the atom's nucleus was positively charged when electrons were emitted and that the entire sphere was positive with negative parts in the middle which then created the plum pudding model -

Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford came up with the most recognizable atom drawing (it is still used in TV shows like 'The Big Bang Theory' and various other related shows). He conducted an experiment known as the gold foil experiment. He fired alpha particles at the gold foil but instead of going straight through as he predicted 1/8000 bounced back. After further examination he realized that electrons were fixed in orbit around the positively charged nucleus. He then came up with the oval orbit model. -
Rutherford Model

Bohr
Niels Bohr isn't as important. He realized that the electrons must be in fixed orbit around the nucleus and that the orbit must be circular. He didn't make any ground breaking discoveries but he made the most reliable atom model to date. -
