    Alexios sent a letter to the pope to get military help to defeat the Selij Turks in the Middle East. although the pope shouldn't have cared about the letter, he got it and read about the terrible things the Turks had supposedly done. Alexios only wanted the troops to keep peace in his empire. Alexios convinced the pope to send troops, and they were received in 1096.

    Pope Innocent II called for another crusade so he could take control of Jerusalem. so instead of attacking from the north, they sailed to the south and attacked there. they tried to cross, but they had no money to pay for the boats, so the Venetians told them to help fight a battle and they wouldnt owe anything.
