History of the Atomic Model. By Orion Parkin and Kaden Bingham

  • John Dalton's Experiment

In 1803 John Dalton had discovered that water could be combined with the closed cells of nitrous oxide on the surface of the water proving that molecules were made up of the same atoms with the same quantity.
  • JJ Tompson's discovery

In 1891 JJ Tomson discovered that there was another piece to the atomic puzzle. He had discovered that in molecules there were also smaller pieces called electrons furthering the development of atomic experiments and discovery.
  • Rutherford's experiment

Rutherford, driven by a goal to see more and further understand the world of atoms and molecules decided to use a radioactive material and a piece of gold foil and have the particles shoot through the foil in order to see what atoms were truly placed like, as the experiment progressed it showed that most of the particles passed through proving that a majority of elements were made of empty space. This pushed us and Rutherford closer to understanding the world of atoms.
  • Niels Bohr

Niles proposed an experiment on electrons and radioactive activity and would later proposed that electrons rotate around the nucleus in a predetermined pattern but could switch between the 3 rings and could switch between the 3 areas but could never exist on the same ring at the same time as another electron.
  • James Chadwick's discovery

In 1932 James Chadwick had discovered that atoms not only had discovered that energy was in atoms but there were not only protons and electrons but neutrons as well.
