Aristotle
Aristotle
Aristotle was the second scientist to add on the atomic theory. He did not believe in the atom, but he did state that everything is made of the four natural elements : air, water, earth, and fire. Democritus
DEmocritusDemocritus was the first scisentist to discover the atom. Democritus wondered what will happen if you would cut an object in half, then cut it again, then cut it again. Eventually you will come to a particle that you can no longer break apart. This will come to his conclusion that the smallest particle will (the atom) would be a smaller replica of the object. John Dalton
DaltonJohn Dalton discovered that objects are made of elements and elements are made of atom which have different masses. Combining 2 or more elements you create a compound. He made this discovery by using the discharge tool. He stated that the atom was very tiny, ubreakable, and indivisable. "GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline." Thomson
ThomsonThomson dicovered that atoms have negatively charged particles inside of them ( what we now call electrons ). He gathered this Informaton from a previous tube experiment. He believed that the protons and electrons were inside the nucleus. "GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline." GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Feb. 2014. -
Rutherford
RutherfordRutherford discovered that atoms have a nucleus. HE discovereed this using the gild foil exeriment which helped describe the nuclear structure of the atom. The deflection of the alpha particles implied the existence of a dense, positively charged central region containing most of the atomic mass. Then stated that the positive charge is in the nucleus "GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline." GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Feb. 2014. -
Bohr
BohrBohr discovered that the negatively charged particles (electrons) are not in the nucleus but hey orbit them.He just added on to Rutherford's idea. He thought the atom had protoons and neutrons in the nucleus and the electrons in the middle "GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline." GaggleTube Video - Models of the Atom Timeline. Heisenberg & Schrodinger
H & SHeisenberg & schroinger discovered that the electrons moved in waves around the nucleaus and that they did not orbit the nucleus by gathering evidence from experiments. the believed the atom had the protons and neutrons in the middle and the electons moving in waves around the nucleus.
