Aristotle
Aristotle believed there were only five elements: air, earth, waater, fire, and Aethers, or space. Everything was made up of these elements. He started the process of discovering elements, but his teachings did not affect the model of his time. His theory was named the Atomic Theory.

Democritus
Democritus discovered that atoms are tiny solids that cannot be broken into any smaller portion. Also, he thought there are an infinite amount of atoms. Each atom had size, weight/mass, and shape. He used huan senses to give an image of atoms that distinguished groups of different things in this world. Democritus believed that atoms looked like marbles.

Dalton
Dalton believed that all matter is made up of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and other properties. Dalton used observations based off of vapor pressure on different liquids. His theory is named Dalton's THeory, and he agreed with Democritu's idea that the atom looks like a marble. Thomson
JJ Thomson discovered that atoms have electrons, and they're much smaller than originally thought. He used a radioactive material that produced a beam of electrons, and shot a screen with it to achieve this discovery. Thomson perceived an atom to look like a blueberry muffin, and his model is called the Plum Pudding Model. "Models of the Atom Timeline." YouTube. YouTube, 06 Dec. 2012. Rutherford
Rutherford discovered atoms had a nucleus, and were chemically balanced. He used a method modernly known as the Rutherford Gold Foil experiment. Rutherford's model is called the Nuclear Model.

Bohr
Bohr stated that electrons circle/ orbit the nucleus, not randomly sit around it. The electrons cirlce the center similarily to how planets orbit the sun. Bohr used an equation to discover this, and his model was called the Bohr Model.

Heisenberg and Schrodinger
According to these two, electrons aren't orbiting, but fly around the atom, creating different designs. These were called orbitals. The two published a proff that matrix and wave mechanics give equivslent results. This method is called the Quantum Mechanical Model, and looks like squiggles around the nucleus, creating a spherical shape. "Models of the Atom Timeline." YouTube. YouTube, 06 Dec. 2012.
