John Dalton
John Dalton discovered the atomic theory. He also discovered that atoms could not be created or destroyed. The importance of the discovery was that it let people know what things were made of, and gave a basic model for everyone to add onto and to improve. -
JJ Thomson
JJ Thomson discovered the electron. JJ Thomson discovered electrons by using a beam that ran across the two plates. Then he put a magnet there and the beam moved up. He figurd out they were electricly charged. The importance of this discovery was that he contributed to the atomic theory and went deeper into the detail of the atom. -
Ernest Rutherford
He discovered the nucleus and that atoms were mainly empty space with electrons that orbited the nucleus. He discovered this by beaming particles at a thin sheet of gold and some bounced off and some went through it. The importance of this discovery was that he contributed to the atomic which led to further explanation of the atom. -
Neils Bohr
He discovered that electrons orbit the nucleus. He discovered this by looking farther into the other models of the atom. The importance of this discovery was that he contributed to the atomic theory and people learned that electrons orbit the nucleus. -
Erwin Schrödinger
Schrödinger discovered how to find the likelihood of finding an electron in a certain position. He used mathematical equations to figure out where electrons were located. The importance of this discovery was that we can now remodel the model of the atom and put electrons where they are supposed to be. -
James Chadwick
He discovered the neutron. He discovered the neutron by combining beryllium atoms with alpha particles. This discovery was important because it further expanded the explanation of the atom and later advancements came after this discovery.
