    The first remote intended to control a television was developed by Zenith Radio in 1950. The remote, called "Lazy Bones", was connected to the television by a wire. A wireless remote control, the "Flashmatic", was developed in 1955.

    The first clinical application of the pacemaker took place in 1958 which involved the use of Zoll’s pacemaker. It occurred following the admission of a 75- year old man in Boston Beth Israel Hospital with two episodes of Stokes Adams attacks and a complete heart block for the past two years.

  • The first Cordless Drill

    The first cordless tool was actually invented by Robert Ridley, Jr while working at Black & Decker. Ridley was trying to solve a problem of on-site power for the installation of aluminum windows. His work focused on battery technology for drills that would allow workman to complete installations without an additional source of electricity.

    In 1957 when the Russians sent up the first earth orbiting satellite, Sputnik.
    It sent out a radio signal which was nothing more than a beeping sound spaced about a second apart, if my memory serves me correctly. People all over the world tracked the beeps, which seemed to have not contained any data at that time. More than likely, it was just a tracking signal.
